but may have been split into two on or about 1954, a covent on this date allows access down the side passage of no.3 and joint use of the outside toilet and back yard. On the right hand bedroom window you can see a long lintel which has a pulley arrangement on it. This raises the possibility that the house was originally used as a spinning weaving cottage. |
In 1954 Sam and Jessie Birchall lived on one side No.1a and Elizabeth Jackson Bridge on the other side No.3
In March 1966 No 1a was sold by Elizabeth Jackson Bridge, formerly of number 3 Mill Street (but then of 44 High Street East) and Alice Hanna Jackson Boyer (of 59 Shaw Lane) to Mabel Barber of School House, Talbot Street.for the princely price of £200.00.
Mabel Barber lived in 1a until her death in July 2005. Although the house then passed to Mabel’s niece (Edith Bradley of Shirebrook Park) it has not been lived in since her death.
